London based IT company
A London based IT company with a strong prescence in eight other countries, provided IT network design, support and training to a diverse client base.

The brief from the main board to the UK operation was to grow in the next financial year by at least 30%. This board decision was made as a result of another countries performance achieving similar results and it was felt the UK could surpass this.

Preparation time was short before the start of the next financial year and the MD of the UK operation was not sure if these new targets could be met as the sales pipeline was indicating likely growth of 12%.

1on1 Sales was asked to provide Marketing Consultancy which assessed the current business and marketing strategy and translated this into an action plan to exceed the 30% target. By carrying out desk research, an active research campaign with past and current customers and looking into niche sectors with high growth several opportunities were identified for fast expansion.

In addition corporate partners were identified which enabled a much stronger combined offering in the IT space. The result was a re-defined strategy with one exisiting business division being improved and expanded, a new high worth and high growth business divison was created and a real push to improve customer retention, customer satisfaction, and a programme introduced to make every employee more aware about putting the customer first.

There were also some changes in personnel which enabled the new strategy and business plan to be correctly managed.

The new business plan was presented to the main board, which was approved and 9 months into the programme the targets were met. The structure was then adopted by some of the eight other worldwide business units and adapted to their local markets where necessary.

Flagship Hotel
A well known UK and European hotel chain had been acheiving very slow growth within their high profile flagship 5 star luxury hotel. The management felt that they wanted to use the next Christmas break holiday to kick start the hotels business. Traditonally they had relied upon previous Xmas guests coming back year after year but this was now tailing off and margins were being squeezed.

Marketing Consultancy was carried out and it became apparant that the profile and needs of the target audience were not really understood by the whole staff and management. Indeed the basis of the Xmas offering year on year came from the staff themselves with no regard as to what the market actually required even though their impressive combined experience in the industry led them to believe that they knew their industry needs.

By doing some basic research about the UK, USA and European market opportunities for the hotel it became apparent that a strong market opportunity existed to offer a whole package covering the Xmas period. But the menu, transport arrangements and activities had to be provided in a number of ways to meet varying demands.

By carefully structuring the activities and menu and making some of the rooms more suitable for family stays with pricing that reflected the high calibre location, the extent to which the hotel now showed they had been putting the customer first and advertising in the right places in the right countries put this hotels Christmas offering back on the map.

The Xmas package was finalised in July, launched in September and by the end of October was fully booked.

Westinghouse (Part of BTR plc) - Completely re-wrote company procedures and then trained 500 senior staff in all key aspects of bid and project management Also identified a loss of revenue and corrected through a better sales handover policy. This saved about £500k per annum.

Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (Local Authority) - Advised the Chief Executive's Directorate on policy and marketing.

Valtech plc (Middleware and IT Consultancy) - Structured business plan and marketing strategy which achieved growth exceeding expectations.

Micropoint (IT Network & Security) - Structured marketing strategy and obtained numerous direct and channel sales opportunities.

Target Computers (Computer Consummables)-Provided strategy and direction plus e-commerce site.

Retail

PC World (Computers and Electrical Goods)-Provided Design and Print services.

HA Woods (Ironmongers and DIY Retailer)-Structured marketing strategy, raised branding profile, introduced customer loyalty scheme, organised events and promotions plus reduced advertising costs whilst growing the company by 30%.

Elite Kitchens (Bespoke Kitchens, Bathrooms and Flooring)-Guidance on sales opportunities, provided sales leads, advised on promotion of new showroom and general business advice.

Frensham Garden Centres (Garden Centre)-Provided local sales promotions.

Established and award winning hair salon group-Evaluated and improved the branding and customer perception, introduced loyalty scheme and a partner scheme which provided a large number of new customers, advised on marketing new retail outlets and e-commerce site.

Online shopping site-e commerce site developed specifically to sell family friendly products and to provide useful information across the family unit. This popular sites domain was sold to a US organisation in 2008.
